Our story — Sunset Bakes, Isle of Arran
Home bakers on the edge of the Atlantic, making proper bakes for the love of it.
How it started
Sunset Bakes began the way most good things do — with too much butter, a quiet weekend, and a kitchen that smelled incredible. We started baking for friends and family on the Isle of Arran, and before long the honesty box appeared by the road.
Every batch is still made at home in Pirnmill, using proper ingredients and no shortcuts. We bake what we love to eat — muffins, cookies, brownies, flapjacks — and we make sure there's always something for everyone, including vegan and gluten-free options.
Life on Arran
Pirnmill sits on the west coast of the Isle of Arran, looking out over the Kilbrannan Sound towards Kintyre. It's a quiet place — the kind where you can hear the sea from the kitchen and the light changes every hour. Baking here feels right.
Arran is often called 'Scotland in miniature' — mountains, glens, coast, and community all in one island.
The honesty box
There are no queues, no card machines, and no fuss. The honesty box sits by the A841 in Pirnmill. You take what you fancy, leave the right money, and carry on with your day. It's the simplest way we know to share what we make.
Cash only — exact change appreciated.
The bakers
We're a small household of enthusiastic home bakers. We don't have a commercial kitchen or a team of staff — just a domestic oven, good ingredients, and a genuine love of baking. Everything is made in small batches so it's always fresh.
Thanks for stopping by — it means a lot.
